Why "Ben Sabil"
The expression literally means "son of the road". In tradition, it described the traveller who found themselves far from home, without the means or the bearings to continue their journey alone — and who had the right, as a matter of collective solidarity, to receive help to carry on. We took this name because the same situation plays out today, in very different forms: a form you don't understand, a system you don't know, a moment when you feel alone in front of something bigger than yourself.
A name that carries weight
In the Quranic tradition, "ibn al-sabil" refers to the traveller in need, far from home, requiring assistance to continue their journey — one of the categories traditionally designated to receive solidarity (zakat).
Using this name means accepting a responsibility: it carries a dimension of solidarity and moral duty toward the stranger passing through, not just the image of a "romantic traveller". It's this seriousness we try to honour in every engagement.
A hand reaching out, not a counter
"Settling in" somewhere isn't just a matter of information: it's a process of putting down roots that touches the practical-administrative, the social, and the inner sense of belonging, all at once. None of these three strands resolves itself with a simple form.
Ben Sabil is neither an administration, nor a charity, nor a consultancy: it's a companion on the road, for a stretch of your journey.
The same complexity, very different situations
Whatever the reason you're here — a move, a change of country, a hard turn in life, a gradual loss of independence, or simply a period where everything feels heavier to manage alone. Ben Sabil doesn't sort people into categories: every engagement starts from what you're going through, not from a box you're supposed to fit into.
What an engagement looks like
One meeting to map out the plan
We talk through your situation, without judgement or bureaucratic jargon, to understand what actually matters to you right now.
Two meetings to move forward
We concretely start the steps we've agreed on together: explanations, preparing documents, introductions, and being there in person if useful.
A next step, if you'd like one
One engagement may be enough, or it may lead to another as your situation evolves. Nothing is imposed.
Support, not a regulated expertise
Ben Sabil facilitates, explains, points you in the right direction, and provides in-person support when useful — but it doesn't replace a lawyer, a notary, a doctor, or a qualified psychologist. When a step requires a regulated professional, we point you toward the right person rather than standing in for them.
Confidentiality
Your personal and administrative situation is neither shared nor kept longer than necessary for the engagement.
No judgement
Whether you've just arrived from abroad or have always lived here, no situation is "too simple" or "too complicated".
Human-scale
You speak with a person who follows you from one meeting to the next, not a different service every time.
